Raj Tents for Pirates of the Caribbean Set

It was great to see Disney’sPirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. As Raj Tents designed and made the tents for the Spanish Camp scene, thought we would share some ‘behind the scenes’ set shots with you. The plot is rich centered on a tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise – and as action-packed as you would expect from the fourth in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow  is back in full form with Penélope Cruz as Angelica, daughter of the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane) - who possesses supernatural powers. Always enjoy Geoffrey Rush, who was so splendid in The King’s Speech and it’s a decadent blast to see Keith Richards as Captain Teague, Jack’s father.

Gordon Sims, Pirates of the Caribbean set designer and his assistant Missy Parker, sought out Raj Tents to design and manufacture themed tenting for the film. This was right around the time that there was a major volcanic eruption in Iceland that left the set decorators stranded in England and slowed down the consultation process. Once the final designs and fabrics were approved, Raj Tents Custom Shop went into action to deliver the tents on time. We were working on a short lead time and had to get the tents to Hawaii ready to be installed within a few weeks! The black and gold color way in cotton canvas contrasted well against the lush tropical green of the breathtaking Na Pali Coastline on the beautiful Hawaiian Island of Kauai. To ensure an authentic look, the tents and accessories were hand crafted with one-off designs from the finials to the tent pegs!
