San Francisco Opera launches new season with Aida Themed Opera Gala Celebration at City Hall
/The San Francisco Opera 88th season opened with the grandest of grand operas, Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida. The evening started off with a cocktail reception and seated dinner in San Francisco’s City Hall, with New York designers Van Wyck & Van Wyck channeling Aida’s Ancient Egyptian theme into a lavish setting. Raj Tents were glad to be remembered for providing tenting for the 2005 ‘Midnight at the Oasis’ Opera Gala and happy to support the Opera with a tent for the main bar in City Hall’s North Light Court. The tent was made especially for the event with the colors of orange and blue being predominant. Unfortunately, code restrictions prevented us from using the ceiling and full walls on the night, but the tented bar still set the scene beautifully.
The performance received glowing reviews, with Micaela Carosi, in the title role, along with tenor Marcello Giordani as Radames, mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick and baritone Marco Vratogna in the first of two extraordinary casts in an "eye-popping production" created by legendary British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes.
After the performance guests returned to the stunning ambiance of City Hall for the Gala Celebration.
